Glory days

we were there, the world was ours
we were ready to build its towers
take the world by its feet
to show them we would succeed
ready to go after our price
our fame an' glory in this life

we scattered all over the earth
lost track of our moves some
thought they were unigue were
caught in a dead end street

several, slowly but steadily climbed
others rose to fame in litttle time
but in ev'ry case, they paid a price
to get up so high in the limelight

gettin' there wasn't a straight line
many tripped an' fell in to a hell
shook their heads, started over
where they fell

back in to the race for power
might an' wealth

so while ev'rybody was busy
consolidating a place in life
I wrote my book about their
escapades

it struck me throughout the years
they had found their place in the
ratrace
nothin' reminded of the once young
graduate

they all more or less had met succes
and had adjusted to the ways society
had demanded for decades

now their children following their steps
where once their ol' man chased girls
where once their mother went to bed

it makes me happy
to look at you
one I never knew
but you're there
all I do is stare

at you
in that frame
