creating the song of the bass
playing its haunting tune ev'ry day
taking the bars a step ev'ry day
he was stricken with grief
when a car put his bass to sleep
all that remained were bits an' pieces
nothing could be done to ease ém
without his bass he'd fade away
in all his missery he met a lady
put him on his feet, still shaky
they worked day an' night
so hard, to save enough for a bass
of to the shop to put down their pay
it wasn't new, it wasn't old
just been standing in the cold
home they went to practice again
plat an' play and play he did
in time to join the band for a trip
beating the daylight out of the thing
squeezing the sound out of the strings
holding it on a very tight reign
so it knows who it is that plays
